The Wii Shall Overcome the Xbox 360? - Thu, 14 Feb 2008 23:56:28 +0000 We have talked about the Wii on our podcasts and the fact that many die-hard Xbox 360 owners also own a Wii console. It now seems that Nintendo’s Wii console geared to the casual gamer will take over the top spot this year. In a report sent to me it states that the Wii will rise to over 30.2 million units while the Xbox 360 is projected to reach 25.7 consoles this year. I post this to show the power of the casual gamer in the videogame industry. Do I think the Wii will really take over the top spot? I think if Nintendo keeps on their pace and gets more titles that will appeal to the Die-hard gamers it sure looks like they will pull it off. It will be interesting to see what this year brings but one thing is for sure Microsoft will know need to watch what Nintendo is doing and perhaps more closely than Sony. Feel free to discuss this in the forums and let your thoughts be known.
Nintendo Takes the Lead in the Video-Game Console Software Market - Thu, 01 Nov 2007 00:39:59 +0000 Nintendo has taken Sony’s place as the leader in the video game console software market for the Q3 2007 period thanks to the introduction of a flood of new titles for both the Wii and the DS. Nintendo is pursuing a strategy of enlarging the market for its software by targeting casual gamers with games such as Mario Kart Wii and Super Mario Galaxy.
Sales of software for the PS3 have been suffering due to its high price and lack of compelling titles. It has been reported that these problems have begun to affect third-party publishers. Sony announced a $100 price cut, however, they were slow to reduce the price and produce compelling games and some third-party publishers are flocking to other platforms.
